Our friendly Recycling Inspectors are back at it and officially started their routes on Monday! ♻️

Be sure to , Akron! If an item that doesn't belong in your recycling cart is spotted, your cart may receive an "Oops Tag" with information to help you correct the mistake before your next collection day.

We are seeing some great improvement of clean bins across the city, and that's thanks to your hard work and commitment to recycling correctly. Keep up the great work, Akron! We appreciate your efforts to keep our recycling stream clean and effective!

Yesterday, some members of Leadership Akron Class 41 joined us for an ambitious cleanup effort beneath the Kenmore Bridge, and what a difference they made.

The site was an abandoned encampment filled with scattered trash, broken household items, discarded clothing, furniture, plastic waste, and years of accumulated debris.

What you see in these photos is a reminder of both the challenge and the opportunity. While the amount of debris was overwhelming and something our staff deals with on the daily, the dedication and teamwork shown by these volunteers was even greater.

A huge thank you to the members of Leadership Akron Class 41 who spent their day helping restore this space. Your hard work, positive attitudes, and commitment to our community made a lasting impact. Projects of this scale are only possible because of volunteers who are willing to step up and do the difficult work. 🚮Also, a special thank you to Ward 9 Councilperson Tina Brode Boyes for stopping out to thank the volunteers for their efforts!

The ABCs of Trees! 🌳

Trees aren’t just vital for us today, they’re essential for future generations. By educating our community now, we’re helping inspire the next generation of tree stewards who will care for, protect, and benefit from these trees for years to come.

Each week, we’ll highlight a new letter of the alphabet, sharing a tree-related word and what it means because understanding trees helps us better appreciate and care for them.

This week’s letter is S for Samara: Samara are dry, winged fruits which remain closed at maturity. Example is a maple seed, twirly whirly or helicopter!
