As a Nutritional Therapist, I’m always looking for ways to make our home environment as nourishing and non-toxic as possible. 🌿
It doesn’t require a massive overhaul overnight. It’s about the small, daily, actionable steps that add up to a huge impact on our long-term health.
Here are 10 non-negotiable ways I keep myself and my family healthy at home:
1️⃣ Move More, Sit Less: Spending 8+ hours at a desk? I utilize a standing desk and set a reminder to move every 45 minutes to keep circulation moving.
2️⃣ Prioritize Air & Light: I get daily morning sunshine right upon waking, and open the windows for cross-ventilation to keep indoor air fresh and clean.
3️⃣ Non-Toxic Oral Care: I use a fluoride-free oral routine and never skip my morning tongue scraping to prioritize oral microbiome health.
4️⃣ Ditch the Fragrances: Most store-bought cleaners are packed with synthetic fragrances that disrupt hormones and irritate the respiratory system. I opt for non-toxic swaps.
5️⃣ Plastic-Free Cooking: I use glass, stainless steel, and cast iron kitchen essentials to keep microplastics out of our food.
6️⃣ Strategic Supplementation: I only use quality supplements to replenish what’s genuinely missing from my diet and to support muscle recovery.
7️⃣ Feed the Microbiome: Incorporating probiotic-rich, fermented foods daily is my secret to a happy gut.
8️⃣ Strength Training: Lifting weights is essential as we age to build lean muscle mass and maintain strong bone density.
9️⃣ Food First, Supplements Second: Don’t waste money on endless pill bottles. Invest that money into real food and healthy fats like wild fish, cold-pressed oils, and sprouted organic nuts.
🔟 The Wind-Down Routine: I use red light therapy at night to soothe my nervous system and avoid blue light. I also use mouth taping to encourage nasal breathing, which promotes better sinus health and deeper sleep.
