We work with our community to build a racially just future through local education, policy work, and

3 police officers have been charged in the murder of Mario Gonzalez.

Involuntary Manslaughter Charges:
The District Attorney’s Public Accountability Unit reopened the case and filed charges against the three officers, Eric McKinley, James Fisher, and Cameron Leahy. The prosecutor believes they killed him by asphyxiation due to negligence. If convicted by a jury they face up to four years in prison.

It Is Possible They Won’t Serve Any Prison Time:
We are happy that the current DA’s Office did their job to investigate the police murder of our Mario. Sadly, it is rare for district attorneys to hold killer cops accountable and families to get justice. However, we are aware that these officers could serve no prison time at all. They could plead no-contest and not admit guilt.

Our Family Will Continue to Fight for Justice:
We will never have justice because nothing can bring our beloved Mario back. We will continue fighting for Mario and alongside other families impacted by police violence, until no child, mother or brother has to lose their loved one to police terror again.

How to Support:
Stay tuned to learn how you can help pack the court when the trial begins in August. Thank you.

Please join us in helping to honor Mario on his third Angelversary. Mario was murdered by Alameda police on April 19th 2021. As a community we hope that we can continue to show up for his family and support them in keeping his memory alive. We hope someday to have a permanent memorial in this space and to have the park renamed for him to make sure everyone knows what happened here, please keep an eye out for a petition for that in the future. For now, please show up for this special event, bring flowers, art, an offering for the altar and love for his family.

🚨 ACTION ALERT 🚨 Help support Mario Gonzalez's brother Efrain as he recovers from emergency surgery next week. We're sending him love and wishes for good health. We also hope to ease Edith’s responsibilities as she cares for her son by helping them with meals and essentials. Supporting Efrain is a way to provide tangible, long-term support to survivors of state violence perpetrated right here in Alameda. Community care is what Edith and Efrain need from us right now, we hope you’ll join us in this effort.
