Picnic Day 04/14/2026

For those interested in participating in the parade ride this weekend in Davis, let me know and here are some details. Also, I have some extra bikes should one be needed.
Greg
Thanks for being a part of the U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame entry in the 2026 parade. The following is information that you need to know:
1. Before participating in the parade you will need to sign a U.C. Davis waiver form. Group Waiver is for 18 and over, General Waiver is for riders under 18. Thanks if you have already sent me your signed waiver.
2. If you want to park for free in the Quad Structure parking lot on Howard Way (north entry off of Russell Blvd), you need to be there by 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 18. They are closing the campus access streets Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m. Otherwise, parking behind (north side) of Davis City Hall at 5th and B Streets is also free.
3. Please be at the staging area on the grass area just north of Parking Lot 14 by 9:15 a.m. This is the same parking lot where we have staged for the last few years. We will be on the grass right next to California Ave. apparently next to the Walking Groups. Just come to the staging area, I will check-in our group by 8:00 a.m.
4. Since the parade ceremonies (speeches) begin at 9:30-10:15 a.m. at the grandstands on North Quad, they usually start lining up the first units in the parade on California Avenue around 9:15 a.m. Since we are toward the back of the lineup this year, I don’t see us exiting the staging area onto Calif. Ave until after 10:15 a.m. when the parade starts.
5.
6. The U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame is designated as parade entry number ___52___. Just look for the highwheelers either on the grass next to Calif. Ave. or in the same parking lot as before.
7. Once the parade begins, we will follow the shortened parade route (turning north on E St. downtown instead of F St.) and end at the U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame at 3rd and B Streets. The museum will not be open to the public…. but we will open it for highwheel parade participants after we take the traditional group photo on the front steps.
8. As always, safety is a priority. When the parade slows, please circle in a counter-clockwise direction. We will have some younger riders on mini highwheels so please watch out for them and for spectators who may dart in front of you without looking (this has happened). Picnic Day

Picnic Day Picnic Day is one of UC Davis’ most revered traditions and serves as the university’s annual Open House for prospective and current students, families, alumni, staff, faculty, and the greater Davis and regional communities.

04/12/2026

Right! I have neglected to post this invite for the annual City of Davis Picnic Day Parade. Should there be anyone wanting to join in and ride with us, please, reach out and let me know. I may have a few extra bikes available if you are feeling up to it!

The 112th Picnic Day will be held on Saturday, April 18. You are welcome to join us as we ride highwheelers and bicycles in the Hall of Fame & Museum parade entry.

Staging information is forthcoming. It is late this year because UC Davis is doing construction on California Avenue which is the street where we usually wait for the parade to begin. They will let us know where we will gather before the parade begins.

The parade route will mostly be the same... except that we will turn left/north on E Street in the downtown instead of one block farther on F Street. This will shorten the parade by one block while keeping F Street open for traffic.

Please let me know if you can ride with us again this year.
Best regards,
