Wildland firefighters and support personnel serve in many different roles, in every corner of the country, but they are united by a common purpose: protecting lives, communities, and natural resources.

On this National Wildland Firefighter Day, we recognize the professionalism, dedication, and courage of the entire wildland fire community.

We also pause to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice and remember the families, friends, and coworkers who carry that loss forward.

Today is a day of recognition, reflection, and gratitude.

Here are steps you can take to support our neighboring counties and improve your own preparedness:

1. Donate to Support Evacuees

2. Support Evacuated Pets
Ark Valley Humane Society is assisting evacuated pets from Lake County during an already busy shelter season. Consider adopting a dog or cat from their shelter to help free up space for evacuated pets (ark-valley.org/).

3. Prepare Your Home and Family
• Emergency Preparedness: Chaffee County Public Health provides comprehensive resources on family and home preparedness, including emergency alert signups, wildfire evacuation checklists, and emergency preparedness guides (https://tinyurl.com/56nxy7ys).

Juneteenth is a day of celebration, remembrance, and reflection. It reminds us that freedom delayed is freedom denied, and it calls us to honor the generations of Black Coloradans who have enriched our communities, our culture, and our state’s history.
