Some projects are more than just roofs — they’re part of a home’s story.
We recently had the opportunity to restore the aging EPDM roof system on this beautiful 1895 historic home, downtown Albany using a Fluid-Applied Gaco S4200 roof restoration system. The homeowners have taken such incredible pride in preserving and restoring the character of this property over the years, and it truly shows in every detail — right down to the intricate Victorian woodwork and original architectural craftsmanship throughout the home.
Rather than performing a messy/invasive tear-off, we were able to restore and protect the existing roof system, extending its service life for many years to come while minimizing disruption to the structure itself. Fluid-applied restoration systems are an excellent option when a roof is weathered and aging, but still structurally sound enough to be renewed instead of replaced.
And yes… the roof hatch was apparently designed in 1895 for people considerably smaller than modern roofers. Let’s just say there was a fair amount of yoga, gymnastics, and questionable flexibility involved getting in and out for a couple of days. 😂
Projects like this remind us why we love what we do — helping preserve homes with history, character, and owners who truly care about maintaining them the right way.
Thank you for trusting Capital Weatherproofing with your home and your roof restoration project.

We were out on an inspection recently and noticed something you don’t see every day from the street — a client’s roof holding a significant amount of standing water. (Enough to home a small family of Koi fish) 😳
On one hand, it’s a quiet testament to what we do at Capital Weatherproofing. Our liquid-applied roofing systems are engineered to be extremely durable and waterproof, even under prolonged ponding conditions that would compromise most conventional roofing systems.
But here’s the part that often gets overlooked — standing water is a red flag, not a positive feature 🏊♀️.
What typically happens is simple but serious: roof drains slowly get obstructed over time by leaves, tree debris, and organic buildup. From the ground, everything looks fine. Up top, water starts to back up. And because it’s gradual, it often goes unnoticed until the load becomes excessive or damage starts forming in hidden areas.
Even the best roofing system in the world still relies on one thing — proper drainage.
That’s why routine roof maintenance and inspections matter just as much as the system itself. Catching a clogged drain early can prevent unnecessary stress on the structure, extend roof life, and avoid costly repairs down the road.
So while we’re proud that our systems can handle conditions like this when they occur, we’re even more focused on making sure they don’t have to.
If you haven’t had your roof checked recently, especially after heavy seasons of debris buildup, it might be worth taking a look before a small blockage becomes a bigger problem.
Also, let’s give a shoutout to our main product manufacturer, Gaco, for making a product this robust and, quite frankly, astonishing. 😲 👏

This winter has been brutal on residential roofs across the Capital District.
Ice dams form when melting snow refreezes at the edge of the roof — trapping water behind the shingles. Once that happens, water starts working its way inside where it doesn’t belong.
That’s when homeowners notice:
• Ceiling stains
• Dripping water
• Peeling paint
• Wet insulation
• Sagging drywall
By the time you see those signs, the roof has usually been leaking for a while.
The good news is most issues can be fixed with targeted roof repair, maintenance, or reroofing — before the damage spreads.
If your roof took a beating this winter in Albany, Troy, Schenectady, or the surrounding Capital Region, Capital Weatherproofing is here to help.

❄️ Flat Roof Leaks Love Winter… Here’s Why
This time of year is ROUGH on flat and low-slope roofs around Albany and the Capital District.
We see the same problems every winter:
🔹 Freeze/thaw cycles opening up seams
🔹 Ponding water turning into heavy ice
🔹 Aging rubber (EPDM) roofs cracking and shrinking
🔹 Small leaks turning into interior damage fast
Most building owners don’t realize their roof is failing until water shows up inside.
At Capital Weatherproofing, we specialize in restoring flat roofs with seamless silicone systems that:
✔ Stop leaks
✔ Handle ponding water
✔ Protect aging rubber roofs
✔ Extend roof life without a full tear-off
If your building has had recurring leaks or “that one problem area” every winter… it’s worth getting it looked at now before spring rains hit.
