A Whole Body Approach to Health

Did you know I use herbal treatments in my practice?
Most Chinese herbs are used in a formula - a recipe of several herbs designed to address a holistic symptom pattern.

Many of the herbal medicines we use may already exist in your garden or pantry. What do you have growing in your garden this year? I’d love to hear from you!

Here is Bai Shao (Peony)
When we use peony medicinally, the most potent part of the plant is the root. It is traditionally sliced and dried and then brewed as a strong tea or decoction.
Peony root is prevalent in formulas that are nourishing the blood and easing spasms or pain that would typically be worsened by stress. It is commonly used in menstrual disorders, as well as conditions where a person is feeling easily fatigued and pale with symptoms that mirror anemia.
It can also be helpful in easing muscle spasms after strenuous activity when the body needs to rebuild its resources.

You might have seen, last week was infertility awareness week. I came across this article in my office from a publication I trust. I have put the link to the full article below. In it there is helpful guidance on life choices that may help increase fertility if you are having trouble conceiving and gives insight into how Traditional Chinese Medicine views and treats fertility.

In my blog this month I wrote about my acupuncture work at a local fertility clinic. Be sure to sign up for my email list so you get my articles delivered to your inbox.

Over the past few weeks, like many of us, I’ve been preparing my yard for the growing season—leveling the earth, planting seeds, and cutting back last year’s overgrowth. This time of year is marked by celebrations across cultures that honor new beginnings, fertility, and the sacredness of the earth. It often brings to mind a meaningful part of my work that I don’t always speak about: the Mondays I spend supporting patients at a fertility clinic.

Being able to offer patients even a brief moment of calm and connection with their bodies during such a challenging time is one of the most meaningful aspects of my work. While my role is just one small part of their larger journey, it is an honor I don’t take lightly.

This week is national infertility awareness week. If this issue affects your life I hope you are seeking out support for however you’re feeling about where you are in the process.
