Water is essential to all life. Too little water and we die, too much water and we drown. The same is true of the grass in our lawns. Water makes up to 70% to 80% of the weight of grasses and the clippings alone are nearly 90% water. While most people are concerned about not watering their lawns enough, the fact is, more lawns are damaged by overwatering.

Proper installation, great care and maintenance are key components in the establishment of your lawn. To assist with your efforts, Wright Turf Farms has provided a list of things to be concerned with to manage your lawn and to keep your lawn and field looking beautiful and green.

General Lawn Maintenance: watering, mowing, fertilizing

Fertilizer Programs/Application: the fertilizer should be applied according to the season

Soil Acidity Inspections: the improper level reduces the availability of plant nutrients

Lime Application: if the soil is too acidic, limestone will correct the problem

Water Management (for established lawns)

Mowing: this helps with the appearance and with growth; grass must be kept at a particular height for growth

TALL FESCUE:

Tall Fescue is a perennial, dark green, bunch-type grass that grows rapidly during the spring and fall. Its popularity relates to its ease of establishment through seeding and its green color during spring and fall, when warm season turfgrasses are dormant and brown. Tall fescue is adapted to a wide range of soil conditions but grows best on fertile, well-drained soils. This grass stays green year-round under irrigated conditions and demonstrates good shade tolerance in the southern region. Recommended mowing height: 2 - 3 inches.
