Freedom is more than a holiday. It is the ability to choose where you live, access the supports you need, and be part of your community. This Independence Day, we celebrate the freedom to live, recover, and thrive in the community of your choice.

As we reflect on the promise of liberty, we are also reminded that freedom requires action. More than 25 years after the Supreme Court’s Olmstead decision affirmed the right to live in the least restrictive setting, that promise remains unfinished. As critical social programs and supports face continued threats, the Alliance will keep advocating for the services, housing, and rights every person deserves.

Read the article:

Another Voice: If the federal government walks away from Olmstead, New York must respond. New York has been a national leader in disability rights and must continue to lead by affirming its commitment to an Olmstead Plan.
