Here’s a fun financial fact I learned recently! Do you know where the piggy bank originated from? There has been some debate on its origins but one theory states that it comes from an orange clay called ‘pygg’ pronounced ‘pug’ that was commonly used to make household pots and plates in the 15th century. During this time people would place their coins at home, inside those pots. When the English language evolved the pronunciation of ’y’ changed to an ‘I’ which changed the word to ‘pig’. English potters would shape their ‘pygg’ money jars into the shapes of pigs to humor customers with a play on words. And over time it morphed into the ‘piggy bank’ that we have today.

Father’s Day is coming up, a day when we celebrate perhaps the greatest work men do. Teaching your children, instilling the lessons that will shape their character and their lives. Is there any work more important?

Interestingly, Father’s Day got started thanks to a young mother named Sonora Louise Smart Dodd. She and her five siblings had been raised largely by her father after their mother died in childbirth, and she thought it would be nice to honor the role that fathers played for their families with a holiday to match Mother’s Day. From that first Father’s Day in 1910, a worldwide celebration emerged – a celebration that fathers truly deserve.

Juneteenth is a time to reflect on the meaning of freedom, acknowledge the past, and recognize the strength and resilience of Black communities.

We honor June 19 as a meaningful part of American history and its lasting impact today.

These quotes get my mind thinking about the next generation. Educating those who will follow us is a vital part of a balanced life. This is especially true, I think, when it comes to financial education. How did you get to where you are today?
