Diné and Chicana artist Nanibah “Nani” Chacon brings Our Gods Walk Among Us to the 2026 Whitney Biennial. Inspired by Navajo cultural forms, electrical towers, and the enduring relationship between land, industry, and sovereignty, Chacon’s towering sculptures invite visitors to consider extraction, balance, and rematriation through an Indigenous lens.

Explore the deep history of the Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail with Superintendent Naomi Torres. 🏜️

She shares the complex history of the trail, the people who traveled it, and the broader story of colonization. Crucially, she highlights the significance of the Tribes along the 1,800-mile route, and emphasizes the importance of incorporating the Native perspective when discussing Native Nations and communities. 🗣️

The video also honors the legacy of the 1969 Alcatraz Native American occupation, when Indigenous activists known as "Indians of All Tribes" stood up for civil rights, land rights, and cultural preservation. ✊🏽
