This portrait shows Federico II Gonzaga, Duke of Mantua, painted by Titian around 1529. The painting is currently housed in the Museo del Prado in Madrid. It depicts the Duke at the height of his cultural prestige, known as a major patron of Renaissance artists. The dog included in the portrait is a Maltese, intended to symbolize faithfulness.
