You’ve probably seen it everywhere — 30 grams of protein within 30 minutes of waking, followed by 30 minutes of low-intensity movement. But does it actually work?
Here’s my honest take as a registered dietitian and strength coach:
I don’t tell every client to follow the 30/30/30 method exactly — but I recommend these exact behaviors to almost everyone I work with. The protein piece especially. Getting 30 grams of protein early in the morning steadies your blood sugar, crushes mid-morning hunger, and sets the tone for your entire day.
And the movement piece? It doesn’t need to be intense. A walk, some yoga, gentle movement — intentional, not exhausting.
Some days you’ll only get 15 minutes of movement or eat 45 minutes after waking. That’s okay. You’re still keeping the habit alive. The one non-negotiable I always come back to? Hit your 30 grams of protein. That single habit does more for your energy, muscle, and satiety than almost anything else you do in the morning.
