Community Foundation for Northeast Michigan

❓ Have you heard of the Quirky Quilters? This nonprofit is all volunteers who love quilting and put their skills to use for a good cause. Community Impact and Northeast Michigan Youth Advisory Council (YAC) grants helped the Quirky Quilters purchase supplies for their “Quilts of Valor” project, which provides one-of-a-kind handmade quilts to U.S. veterans.

Project organizer Denise Liebold shared with us how Gary Gildea, a Vietnam Veteran, felt when he received a quilt from the group on Veterans Day. He was so touched by the kindness of the Quirky Quilters and said he had “never felt so loved and appreciated as a veteran” as he did that day.
