Congratulations Alpine, Texas!

The Alpine Downtown Historic District has officially been listed on the National Register of Historic Places. After years of research, advocacy, collaboration, and persistence, Alpine's historic downtown has received the national recognition it deserves.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible, especially the City of Alpine for supporting the historic district study and Post Oak Preservation Solutions for guiding the nomination process.

Special thanks also to the Archives of the Big Bend, the Historic Alpine Board: Abbey Branch, Mayor Catherine Eaves, Matt Walter, Wendy Little, Carol Fairlie, Dona Ward, and Kirsten Moody and to the many volunteers, property owners, supporters, and community members who contributed along the way.

A special nod as well to Debra Bach, Anna Mod, Pete Peterson, Judge Greg Henington, and Ward 5 Councilman Rick Stephens for their support and encouragement throughout this journey.

This designation is more than a recognition of our past. It is an investment in Alpine's future and an important tool for preserving the places that make our community unique.

Congratulations, Alpine, Texas. Now it is officially Historic Alpine!

This is an extraordinary moment for Alpine and Far West Texas.

When Historic Alpine was formed in 2020, one of our primary goals was to help pursue National Register designation for Downtown Alpine; and, today that vision becomes reality.

This designation is more than recognition of our history. It creates new opportunities for preservation-based economic development, heritage tourism, thoughtful reinvestment, and the long-term stewardship of Alpine’s historic character.

Most importantly, this is just the beginning.
