Jesus “Chuy” G. Vega
In Loving Memory of Jesus "Chuy" G. Vega
Jesus "Chuy" G. Vega, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, entered into eternal rest on June 22, 2026, in Alpine. Born in Terlingua on May 21, 1946, Chuy lived a life defined by hard work, devotion to his family, and an unwavering willingness to help anyone in need.
Chuy was the ultimate Jefe—Patron and Godfather who set the standard for his family not through empty words, but through his quiet, powerful actions. From a young age, he was a familiar and trusted face in the Alpine community, working at nearly all the local service stations and managing Vega’s Chevron for several years. His career journey later took him to Big Bend Memorial Hospital, Marquez’ Texaco in Andrews, and Ward County in Grandfalls, where he worked until his retirement. Chuy was incredibly proud of his professional achievements, especially earning his water treatment certifications from Texas A&M University.
A man of deep joy and a unique sense of humor, Chuy famously lived by the motto: "Live for today and not for tomorrow!" He embraced life fully and cherished every moment spent with his loved ones.
Chuy is reunited in heaven with his beloved wife, Maria “Mary” Franco Vega; his parents, Tomas Sr. and Luciana “Chana” Vega; his brothers, Alberto, Tomas Jr., Romulo, and Jose Luis “Lichi” Vega; and his sisters, Corina Muniz, Erminia Covarrubias, and Virginia G. Vega.
His legacy of love, strength, and laughter will live on through his family:
Sons: Jesse F. Vega (Lola), Daniel F. Vega (Melinda), and David F. Vega (Selena)
Daughter: Angie Portillo (Richard)
Grandchildren: Crystal Lujan (Noe), Danielle Vega, Daniel Vega (Lessley), Jesse Vega, Joshua Vega, Isaiah Vega, Justice Vega, Jaiden Portillo, and Jaycee Portillo
Great-Grandchildren: Izaak Lujan, Iden Lujan, Alexavier Garza, Ava Lorena Vega, and Ezekiel “EZ” Vega
Special Nephew: Sammy Acosta
Special Friend: Maria Elena Ramirez
Brother: Palemon G. Vega
Aunt: Petra Vega Alvarado
He is also survived by numerous cousins, extended family members, and lifelong friends who will deeply miss his presence, his guidance, and his quick wit.
Services: Rosary & Mass: Friday, July 3, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Alpine.
Graveside Service: Holy Angels Cemetery in Alpine immediately following the Mass.
Reception: A luncheon will follow at Our Lady of Peace Parish Hall.
He will be deeply missed, but his spirit remains with us until we meet again.
