Our Story
The Altamont Recreation Commission does a variety of different programs, including free summer music shows. We help support the little league sports and other recreational programs. The Recreation Commission organizes the Turkey Box Drawings which are given away at Christmas time from the local businesses. The Recreation Commission has also purchased seasonal banners to decorate the downtown area.
We are a local champion for the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. With this program, we are able to mail age appropriate books to children in the Altamont zip code from birth to age 5 at no cost to the families. At this time, we are able to sponsor 70 children each month. Since starting the program in November 2011, we have mailed out over 6700 books.
The Recreation Commission has made several improvements to the Altamont City Park in the last couple years. We have purchased new playground equipment, placed a new flagpole and refinished the basketball court.
One of our newest events is the Halloween Boo Bash. It is held at the Altamont City Park. It is a family fun event with a costume contest, pumpkin decoration contest, kid's games, treats, door prizes and food. This event wouldn't be possible without donations from wonderful businesses in our community.
