The Great Rivers Field Station staff had the pleasure of sharing what we do and why to the next generation of possible scientist . Alton High School students enrolled in the Summer Watershed Academy with Mr. Pettus had a great time holding fish , turtles and learning about our ecosystem and waterways. We were even lucky enough to catch a Paddlefish for them to see. It was a lot of these kids first time holding a fish and they jumped right in !

Exciting news , for the 1st time in nearly 120 years our follow researchers at Illinois Natural History Survey found the state-endangered Salamander Mussel alive in Illinois!

As part of the Alton city wide clean up , we cleaned up 42 pounds of trash from the streets around the field station . Thanks to everyone that will be cleaning up tomorrow ❤️ More details in the comments .
