Alexis Thompson, you and your team’s efforts supporting all of us (fellow colleagues and our clients) = incredible.
So many supportive emails. Texts. Questions answered or answers sought. Working on tight timelines. Improving testing capabilities. Offering solutions. Gathering feedback. From the practicing vet view, your service as a diagnostician is a pillar of our community.
We appreciate you, are so glad you call the Panhandle home with all of us, and most important news, big congratulations on this well deserved promotion! 🐄❤️

This eye photo is for all who said “It’s just a little pinkeye”.
Please help spread the word about eyes like these in humans working with cattle. These clinical signs, along with flu like symptoms, have been seen in Texas in humans on dairies at the same time cows were sick.
This image should be hanging in every human medical clinic + eye doctor in counties with dairy farms, feedlots, calf ranches, and slaughterhouses, with the specific request to BOLO and ask about history/interaction with animals.
Cherissa Abdul-Hamid, DVM, MPH, our veterinary hero on the human health zoonotic team at the Texas Department of State Health Services, has demonstrated hours and weeks of grit, determination, and the most solid communication we could ask for after mobilizing to support testing and treatment once field based cattle veterinarians reported sick humans to the Texas state veterinarian the third week in March of this year. Congratulations on this publication and thank you all your continued efforts.
We must care for people who care for cows.
Animal health = human health = one health.
Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza A(H5N1) Virus Infection in a Dairy Farm Worker | NEJM A highly pathogenic avian influenza A(H5N1) virus infection was identified in a dairy farm worker in Texas. This pathogen has been reported in multiple dairy herds in several states.
Only with the help of incredible friends, colleagues, and the real eyes on farm = the guys and gals caring for the special needs cows, heifers and calves could we solve this puzzle.
Solamente con la ayuda de increíbles amigos, colegas veterinarios y los ojos verdaderos de la lecheria = los hombres y mujeres que cuidan de las vacas, vaquillas y becerras del hospital y enfermos, pudimos resolver este rompecabezas.
