CSRL Director, Dr. David Acker is visiting our ISU-Uganda Program associates and stakeholders this week at our Mpirigiti Rural Training Center in Kamuli. He woke up this morning and saw this 5-feet tall Marabou Stork grazing/hunting happily about 6 feet from his window.

Speaker: Dr. Hale Tufan, Professor, Dept. Global Development; School of Integrative Plant Science, Project Director: GREAT, AWARE, NextGen Cassava, and Innovation Lab for Crop Improvement, Cornell University.

In her work with plant breeders and researchers, Dr. Tufan explores how agriculture can contribute to gender equality and social inclusion. Tufan serves in leadership positions of several projects aimed at food security, crop improvement, seed systems, and gender relations. She is associate director, Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Crop Improvement; PI, Gender Responsive Researchers Equipped for Agricultural Transformation (GREAT); PI, Muhogo Bora: Cassava for All, division lead, NextGen Cassava; gender research lead, Feed the Future Insect-Resistant Eggplant Partnership. 2019 recipient of the Norman Borlaug Field Award.
