It may be difficult to see from this photograph - but believe me - when I was digging into the soil I could see how depleted it was. How did it get that way? Creating a healthy aerated nutritious soil substrate requires oxygen, water, organic compost in the form of leaves or other, all which provides a beneficial home for earthworms and other organisms in the soil.
