It was great meeting with Senator Jeremy Zellner during my visit to Albany last month. We had the opportunity to discuss important priorities for the Town of Amherst. I appreciate Senator Zellner taking the time to listen and discuss initiatives that will benefit our town, and I look forward to continuing these conversations to help Amherst thrive.

Last week, I had the opportunity to welcome Amherst Supervisor Shawn Lavin to Albany to talk through the priorities that matter most to Amherst residents. I appreciate the chance to connect and continue working together to deliver for our communities.

Happy Veterans’ Day!

This is what governing is all about! Proud to support this incredibly important bill which takes meaningful steps to honor and support those who served our nation.

This bill gives service points to National Guard members applying for civil service exams who served in domestic emergencies. Previously, only National Guard members who serviced internationally were able to apply for veterans’ points on their civil service exams. Thank you to Senator Robert Ortt and his staff for their hard work on this bill!

This effort is a powerful reminder that some issues are bigger than politics. Seeing Republicans and Democrats work together on this is inspiring and exactly what our constituents expect. Respect for our veterans and active-duty service members is a value that unites us all.

Lavin promises change is coming to Amherst Town Hall − with guidance from a New York Times bestseller Even though Lavin has worked closely on the Town Board with outgoing Supervisor Brian J. Kulpa, serving most recently as Kulpa's appointed deputy supervisor, Lavin said residents will see differences once he assumes the role of supervisor.

Winter is knocking on our door, Amherst! As your Supervisor Elect, I want to make sure we're all prepared for the first snowfall of the season. Let's keep our community safe together!

Here are some quick tips:

On the Road:

Slow Down: Give yourself plenty of extra time and reduce your speed significantly. "Ice and snow, take it slow!"

Increase Following Distance: Leave more space between your vehicle and others. Stopping takes longer on slippery roads.

Clear Your Vehicle: Make sure your entire car, including the roof, is clear of snow and ice before you drive. Flying snow can be dangerous for other drivers.

No Cruise Control: Avoid using cruise control on snowy or icy roads.

In Your Vehicle:

Keep an emergency kit with essentials like jumper cables, a flashlight with extra batteries, blankets, a small shovel, and a bag of sand or cat litter for traction if you get stuck.

Ensure your gas tank is at least half full to prevent fuel lines from freezing.

At Home:

Salt Your Walkways: Apply salt or an ice melt product to sidewalks and steps before snow turns to ice, and again after shoveling, to prevent dangerous slips and falls.

Have flashlights, extra batteries, a battery-powered radio, and a supply of non-perishable food and water on hand.

Check your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, and make sure heating systems are in good working order.

By taking these simple precautions, we can all enjoy the beauty of winter safely in Amherst. Stay warm and be well!
