Long Lake/ Raquette Lake Independence Day celebrations —

Long Lake will be offering a full day of activities on the Fourth of July, according to Alexandra Verner Roalsvig, Town of Long Lake Director Parks, Recreation & Tourism.

The Annual 4th of July Games, sponsored by the Town of Long Lake, will begin at 10 a.m. on the Town Ball Field, with games for all ages. Classic favorites include small children scavenger hunt, balloon race, sack races, the venerable egg toss (pictured), and three-legged race. Children enjoy collecting their winnings from the town’s exclusive prize booth.

The annual 4th of July Celebration will be held at the Town Beach beginning at noon, sponsored by the Town of Long Lake.

Live music will be performed at the Town Beach alongside a feast served up by The Long Lake Fire Department (3 p.m. until sold out), and strawberry shortcake from the Long Lake Lions Club (noon until sold out).

Daydream Fountain will be entertaining the crowds with their musical talents starting at 1 p.m.

At 5 p.m., Bed Races will be held from Long Lake Bridge to the town beach.

“After a 10-year hiatus, Long Lake’s legendary Bed Races (pictured) return for the 250th Anniversary of the United States—and we’re bringing the competition, speed, and chaos back to Main Street,” said .Roalsvig. “Dust off the wheels. Reinforce the frame. Pick your rider wisely.”

Teams will race custom-built, non-motorized beds down a fast, downhill 0.2-mile course from the Bridge to the Beach, with spectators lining the route.

At 6:30 p.m. Grit N Grace will perform live, featuring high-energy country, rock, and dance music.

At approximately 9:30 p.m., there will be fireworks at the beach. In the event of rain, events will be held at the Mt. Sabattis Pavilion.

The Long Lake Little Bus will run from the Municipal Lot next to St. Henry’s Church on Main Street, providing transportation to and from the Town Beach within a 3.5-mile radius.

For more information, call 518-624-3077 or visit www.mylonglake.com. In the event of rain, activities move to the Mt. Sabattis Pavilion.

Also on Saturday, enjoy a spectacular Fireworks Display over the water in Raquette Lake beginning at dusk.
