one thing I’ve learned from producing albums over the years is sometimes you just gotta let things be good. Case in point: 2017’s Punch Punch Kick album. I started working with the singer/songwriter Phil McDonald a year or two before and we co-wrote and recorded a few songs. He assembled an amazing band including my longtime studio drummer Reade Pryor. In addition to being some of my favorite humans, these guys are probably the best band I’ve ever recorded. They’re one of those groups that plug in their instruments and start playing and you just go “yup, that’s them.” My job was really just to let them be awesome and capture said awesomeness in the studio. We recorded most of the tracks LIVE and all together (at The Lair Recording in LA with the homie Lizzy Ostro ) and did very little editing — they just sound like that! This album never got the attention it deserved but if you’re a fan of classic melodic rock like Foo Fighters, Cheap Trick, Weezer etc I urge you to give it a listen.
