This week, ABC SoCal leaders and Board Members joined contractors and industry advocates from across the country in Washington, D.C. for ABC National's Legislative Conference 2026.

Throughout the week, we met with key policymakers and legislative staff to discuss the issues impacting the merit shop construction industry, workforce development, apprenticeship programs, and the importance of open competition. Thank you to U.S. Representative George Whitesides, Emma Consoli (Legislative Assistant to U.S. Congressman Derek T. Tran), U.S. Representative Lou Correa, and Heather Painter (Legislative Director to U.S. Representative Pete Aguilar) for taking the time to meet with us and hear the voice of Southern California's construction industry.

ABC National and its National Board of Directors also heard from Mike Rowe, host of Dirty Jobs and founder of the Mike Rowe Works Foundation, who joined attendees to discuss ABC's transformational partnership with Meta in creating America's Workforce Academy. The conversation highlighted the critical need to invest in workforce development and create more pathways into rewarding careers in construction and the skilled trades.
