Callie Wegner's digital drawing, "Science Fiction Yesterday" brings to focus on the connection we have with one another through technology and at such a fast pace. "Technology has brought our communities together, and the ever-lasting imagination the world has about the future has brought the innovative ideas into reality."

Today's preview is of an untitled acrylic painting by Lillian Mitchell. In this image, Lillian reflects on her own heritage. She describes the inspiration behind her imagery: "[the assignment prompt] made me think of all my family members, recalling all the memories and the stories I had been told about my ancestry. One of those stories my mom would tell me was about our Viking ancestors and how our family’s symbol was a double tailed mermaid, like depicted in my painting."

Today's preview is of Grace Britton's graphite drawing, "Mother & Daughter," which brings awareness to the ties of feminism and mental health. She describes: "This piece comes from a photo taken of my mother around the time I was born in the late 90’s. Maternal love and relationships have been something I have been pondering since I turned 22, the same age my mother was when she gave birth to me." Grace reminds us to cherish our family and to create a future our children would be proud of.

Mary Claire describes when she made this piece, ”My sister, niece, and I took a day trip to Cannon Beach in Oregon. It was the jump start of the summer of 2020 and the beginning of a goodbye. I didn’t think I’d look back on this painting with joy and gratitude. We had to get away from Seattle and be around beauty and fresh air. Some of my most important and lovely moments with my Mom have been at the beach playing and exploring the beach until sunset.”

Mary Claire Letourneau mentions the art process, “I’m glad I painted this day instead of a photo or a writing because what I felt at that time might not otherwise be represented in different mediums.”
