History of Spenard: How a squatter, bootlegger and showman gave Anchorage’s most renowned road its name Histories of Anchorage: There was indeed a man named Joe Spenard, a notable figure in the earliest days of Anchorage, but most people don’t know the details.

IT’S HERE!! Thirteen years ago, someone had the hare-brained idea to cram a couple hundred people into a room in Spenard, and call it Spenard Jazz Fest. Of course, in 2020 we are thinking about anything BUT cramming a couple hundred people (or even a couple dozen!) people into any physical space.
