In June of 1964 the Alvin Submerisble was commissioned and change deep sea science forever! I am so honored to have been invited out to Woods Hole Oceanographic to commemorate the amazing work their team has done since the beginning, and continues to do today. Thank you the Alvin, the Alvin Team, and everyone at WHOI making deep sea science possible.

Alvin submersible windows >>> every other window

The Alvin pilots work incredibly hard to get this kind of view on a regular basis, and to make deep sea science possible.

What is it actually like diving in the Alvin Submersible?

I’ll be answering this question with .ocean as part of their campaign later today :)

This is about geology broadly, not a specific niche, and it comes with one caveat- if you’re not willing to move for a job, you’re going to have a hard time getting one. Geology is a job where you move where the job is. Most people I’ve met who couldn’t get a job in geology after graduation it’s because because they were not willing to move for the job or they were only willing to take a job in a specific specialty with fewer jobs available/ wouldn’t take a mud logging or other entry level positions to get started - those are totally fine stances to have but do change your outlook in the job market and should be taken into consideration before becoming a geologist. I think it’s important to recognize that many other fields you have basically NO options with just a bachelors. Even a masters sometimes. You might not love the options with a bachelors in geology, but we end up in a far better position than most in today’s economy and so many jobs in geology are vital for the world to function.
