On this first day of the new year we honor Mary, Mother of God and Mother of the Universal Church. Throughout the ages, the Blessed Mother has appeared to her children in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas to evangelize in the name of Jesus her son. The many parishes in our local archdiocese named in her honor reflect the beautiful diversity of God's family, united under the motherhood of Mary.
