Some stories are too important to leave in the past.
Last fall, SCCF uncovered cassette tape interviews recorded in 1996 featuring local community leaders sharing their hopes and vision for the future of Steuben County.
Nearly 30 years later, those conversations still matter.
One of those voices was Chuck Sheets, who spoke about the importance of creating positive spaces for young people to gather, grow, and stay connected to the community. Recently, our community honored his legacy through the opening of Sheets Family Park. Which serves as a reminder that one person’s vision can impact generations.
It also reminded us of something bigger: strong communities are built through continued investment in people, opportunities, and future generations.
While technology has changed from cassette tapes to digital archives, the heart behind community leadership remains the same. The conversations we have today will help shape Steuben County for years to come.

Investing in prevention, recovery, and hope.
Across Steuben County, organizations are helping individuals and families navigate the challenges of substance abuse through prevention programs, recovery support services, education initiatives, and treatment resources. Their work creates pathways to healing, strengthens families, and builds a healthier community for all.
The Steuben County Substance Abuse Response Fund was established to support these efforts by providing funding for programs that address substance abuse and its impact throughout our county.
The Steuben County Community Foundation is now accepting applications for the Steuben County Substance Abuse Response Fund.
📅 Applications are due June 30. Learn more and apply: steubenfoundation.org/nonprofits
If your organization is working to address substance abuse challenges in Steuben County, we encourage you to apply.

All skill levels are welcome, with divisions for:
• Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced players
• High school/college, ages 20–40, and ages 41+
The only thing missing from the bracket is your team.

Each team will represent a nonprofit of their choice, and the tournament champions will earn a $1,000 donation for the nonprofit they play for.
Hosted in partnership with Angola Parks & Recreation and the YMCA, this event combines friendly competition with community impact, and we'd love to fill the brackets with local players.
