Preparing your body for a workout is just as important as the workout itself.

That’s why many sessions at Excellence In Fitness begin with intentional stretching and activation.

In this session, AJ is helping Laurie prepare for her workout by focusing on two key areas that are commonly tight—especially for adults who spend much of the day sitting.

The first exercise uses a cable with light resistance to gently stretch the hamstrings while holding the muscles in a lengthened position. This helps improve mobility and prepares the muscles for the work ahead.

The second is the Figure 4 stretch, which targets the glutes and piriformis—muscles that can become tight from prolonged sitting and may contribute to discomfort or restricted movement.

When your hamstrings, glutes, and hip flexors move more freely, your body is better prepared to perform each exercise with proper positioning, stability, and control.

At EIF, every workout is carefully customized and curated.

Every session is actively coached by your trainer.

And every exercise—before, during, and after your workout—is selected with purpose.

If you spend most of your day at a desk or behind the wheel, take a few minutes to stretch your hamstrings, glutes, and hip flexors before exercising.

Your body will thank you.

The hyperextension bench is one of our favorite tools for strengthening the glutes and hamstrings.

But like every exercise at Excellence In Fitness, it’s not just about performing the movement—it’s about performing it correctly.

One of the most common mistakes people make is hyperextending at the top of the exercise.

While it may feel like you’re getting more range of motion, it often shifts the workload away from the glutes and places unnecessary stress on the lower back.

Instead, we coach our clients to move slowly and with control.

Maintain proper positioning.

Keep tension on the glutes throughout the entire movement.

And stop at the point where the glutes are fully contracted—not where your lower back begins to take over.

Once proper form is established, we can safely increase the challenge by adding resistance while maintaining a slow movement speed and maximizing time under tension.

The result is a more effective exercise that strengthens the muscles we’re trying to target while helping protect the lower back.

Every repetition is actively coached.

Every movement has a purpose.

Every workout is carefully customized and curated.

Because it’s not about doing more.

It’s about doing it better.
