Hand fi***ng can be a normal part of infant development. A little hand fi***ng here and there is to be expected.
While occasional hand fi***ng is normal, predominant or more frequent hand fi***ng can be a SIGN OF BODY TENSION.
In order to support typical development we want to see a VARIETY OF HAND POSTURES and active hand opening to allow for sensory and motor exploration of the environment. When there is persistent or predominant hand fi***ng your baby may be MISSING OUT on some key early development opportunities.
IMPORTANT 👇
✨✨✨Hand fi***ng is often accompanied by OTHER SIGNS OF BODY TENSION✨✨✨
In this image we also see asymmetric posture with a head tilt. AND you can’t see it but he also had a tongue tie and many feeding difficulties. Is this sounding similar to your baby?
If you notice hand fi***ng DO SOME MORE INVESTIGATION👇
🖤Observe your baby for asymmetric postures like a head tilt or turning preference.
🖤Check to see that they have normal range of motion at their neck.
🖤See out how they do with tummy time.
