This is a guitar I have left over from the shop, so I thought I'd put a message out.
If someone, or someone you know, would like to buy ($350) a cosmetically challenged, but very functional LH electric, send me a message. I don't have a case, so I don't want to ship it out and would prefer to sell locally.
Based on the fretwear, this guitar had been played a lot. It also had a couple of mysterious holes on the top where I think someone had added a guitar synth pickup or similar. Who knows. Because it was a used up MIC Gretsch it had little retail value. However.....
When a guitar is played half to death it generally means it's a decent instrument. So with that in mind, and using my worst business sense, I leveled the board (which was nowhere near flat) refretted it with Jescar 47100 medium jumbos (and the binding makes that extra fun), fixed the nut slot, added a Tusq nut, and set it up as best as I can playing it upside down. :D
I believe these were made with a chambered basswood body, a maple neck, rosewood board, the usual 24.6" scale neck, and two blacktop filter'trons. It weights 7 lb 13 oz, so it's not super heavy.
I haven't done anything with the electronics (other than cleaning), but everything works.
It seemed a waste to leave it one step from being tossed, so I figured for the cost of frets, a nut, and some sandpaper it was worth making it a decent guitar.

I'll be performing with my band Carolina Revival Friday night at the Korner Pocket in Raleigh, 8-11.
I'll be playing my Godin Freeway guitar synth through a Roland GR-55 for all of the 1st set. Godin is one of the few companies still supporting these, and for live use the flexibility is pretty amazing, even though it's an old design.
One of the songs we play is Name by the Goo Goo Dolls, which on the recording had the guitars tuned to DAEAEE! I have a dedicated patch for the song built on an acoustic with a little chorus in that exact tuning, so it sounds pretty cool.
Other times I use it to change instruments during the song (piano to guitar in one), use tones that work better in the context of a song (pedal steel and fiddle) tune up a 1/2 step, tune down a 1/2 step, sound like Billy Gibbons (not really :D )....basically anything within the limits of what I can do without getting confused during a show!

I have a few new setneck Godins in the shop. These are made in Canada, weigh less than 7 1/2 pounds, include really nice gig bags and most importantly play great. These all have the 24 3/4" scale length common to Gibson and Epiphone.
The crazy thing is these guitars now compete with Epiphone...Gibson prices have skyrocketed plus Epiphone has started marketing a bunch of guitars that cost over $1000. In all fairness, Gibson makes great pickups and Epi has started to spec some in their high end models. However, pickups can be easily charged, so getting a guitar with great fretwork, balance and a nice feeling neck counts for a lot, which is exactly what Godin delivers.
