Today, the Federal Reserve cut interest rates by one quarter point. This marks one year since the first rate cut of the current cycle (which began on September 18, 2024). That makes now a good time to look at how stocks have typically performed in the second year of past Fed rate-cutting cycles.

As the chart shows, history is encouraging; over the past 50 years, stocks have delivered an average gain of 16.4% in the second year after rate cuts begin.
