LEDs in Test/Measurement, Medical/Science Market Forecast

May 6, 2022 – ElectroniCast, a leading market/technology consultancy, today announced the release of an update and application expansion to their annual market study and forecast of the use of packaged light emitting diodes (LEDs) used in test/measurement, medical and other science devices.

According to the research study, the global consumption value of LEDs in selected test/measurement and medical/science devices in 2021 was estimated at $636, up from $514 million in 2020. Due to the impact on production, sales, shipment and implementation caused by the negative effects of the coronavirus (COVID-19), we estimated a slowdown in 2020, as well as a continuation of consumption concerns in 2021 and 2022.

ElectroniCast is forecasting an average annual growth rate of 8.4 percent during the 1st-half of the forecast period (2021 to 2026); reaching $952 million in 2026. During the 2nd-half of the forecast (2026-2031), the value is forecast to increase at a slower rate of 4.9 percent, but advance in value to $1.21 billion in 2031, with quantity growth partially offset, by a decline of average selling prices (ASPs). Market forecast data in this study report refers to consumption (use) for a particular calendar year; therefore, this data is not cumulative data.

All values and prices in this report are at end-user levels, and are in current dollars, which include the effect of a forecasted 5 percent annual inflation rate over the forecast period. Market forecast data in this study report refers to consumption (use) for a particular calendar year; therefore, this data is not cumulative data.

The VALUE is based on Quantity x ASP (average selling price). The assumed prices are the estimated or forecasted average prices paid during the indicated calendar year. These are the original manufacturer’s (“factory”) prices invoiced to the first (original) customer, or transfer prices for internal (captive) production. They take into account the typical purchase quantities and related quantity discounts, as well as the variation in performance specifications between one user and another. All values and prices in this report are at end-user levels, and are in current dollars, which include the effect of a forecasted 5 percent annual inflation rate over the forecast period.

The costs of supplier testing, qualification, documentation and other ancillary costs are included in the price calculation. This is the main factor making prices for various specialty products substantially higher than prices for similar commercial products. The price for any particular purchase may vary widely from the average, depending on quantity, specifications and competitive bidding pressures.

The market data of the consumption (use) of LEDs are also segmented by an extensive range color. According to the study, UV lamps are rapidly replacing mercury-based lamps in many applications. Red LEDs (including visible red, infrared/IR and near-IR), in 2021, represented over 20 percent share of worldwide marketplace.

Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) Market Forecast

Global use of handheld OTDRs and associated devices reach $407.33 million in 2018…

February 25, 2022 -- ElectroniCast Consultants, a leading market and technology research consultancy addressing the fiber optics communications industry, today announced the release of their annual market forecast of hand-held OTDR fiber optic test devices. The new report provides a 10-year forecast of the worldwide market for handheld OTDRs and multiple-test units (platforms) using OTDR modules, as well as supplementary/secondary (add-on) OTDR-based modules.

An Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) is a fiber optic test instrument used as a troubleshooting device to find faults in the optical fiber link.

According to ElectroniCast Consultants, the estimated global consumption value of handheld OTDR devices (dedicated-handheld or modular solutions) and “add-on” (supplementary) OTDR modules in 2021 was $480.22 million. The consumption value is forecast to increase 4.45 percent annually, during the 1st-half of the forecast period to reach $597.04 million in 2026; and increase further to $680.7 million in the year 2031, with rising quantity growth partially offset by a decline of average selling prices. All values and prices in this report are at end-user levels, and are in current dollars, which include the effect of a forecasted 5 percent annual inflation rate over the forecast period.

The Asia Pacific region (APAC) held the leadership position in relative market share of worldwide consumption value, last year. Europe, in 2021, represented 22.8 percent relative market share of the worldwide consumption value. Europe's consumption value is forecast to increase at relatively constant pace throughout the forecast period. The North American region (U.S.A., Mexico, and Canada) had an estimated consumption value of $157.9 million in 2021.

The Rest of the World region (including Central/South America, Africa and Middle East) is forecast for an increase (value) movement during the 1st-half (2021-2026), at 11.05% per year, and then increases during the 2nd half at a forecasted nearly 6% annually during the 2nd-half (2026-2031). Note: Market forecast data in this study report refers to consumption (use) for a particular calendar year; therefore, this data is not cumulative data.
