Most plastic waste that is generated in the U.S. ends up in the ocean. There are over 45,000,000 pieces of plastic per every square mile of the ocean. Not only is this plastic polluting the oceans, but it is also killing marine life and seabirds (via RecycleNation).

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates 75% of waste produced by Americans is recyclable, but only recycle 30% of it. A lot of waste that could be recycled ends up in landfills simply because individuals are not taking the time to separate their waste.
