Livestock market reports are packed with useful information — if you know how to read them.

Terms like cutweight, muscle score, yield grade and condition descriptors like "fancy," "plain" and "gaunt" show up in every report, but for producers new to buying and selling, they can feel like a foreign language. Noble's Legacy magazine breaks it all down in a straightforward guide that covers animal types, weight and volume terminology, muscle and condition scoring and carcass yield — along with practical tips for finding and evaluating the right sale barn for your operation.

One tip worth remembering: the first time you walk into a sale barn shouldn't be to sell your own livestock. Go ahead of time, watch a sale and ask questions—the relationship you build with your sale barn matters.

Summer is a great time to invest in the business side of your operation — and Noble Research Institute has two upcoming Noble Profitability Essentials courses worth adding to your plans.

This two-day, in-person course is built for producers who want to take an honest look at their ranch's finances and come away with real tools to improve the bottom line. You'll learn to build profit and loss and cash flow budgets, identify your most and least profitable enterprises and define the metrics that keep your operation moving in the right direction.
