How to Grease the Printhead Carriage Rail on an Epson ET-15000

Tools & Supplies You’ll Need:
• Lint-free cloth or paper towel
• Isopropyl alcohol (90%+ preferred)
• Synthetic grease safe for plastics and metals
(e.g., Super L**e, white lithium grease, or silicone-based grease – just avoid anything petroleum-based that can degrade plastic)
• Cotton swabs (optional)
• Gloves (optional, but keeps your hands clean)

⸻

Step-by-Step Instructions:
1. Power Off and Unplug the Printer
• Safety first. Let it sit for a minute to make sure all parts are idle.
2. Open the Printer Cover
• Open the top of the printer to access the printhead carriage.
3. Move the Printhead Carriage
• Gently slide it manually to the center if it’s not already there. You might hear resistance—that’s okay, but don’t force it too hard.
4. Locate the Carriage Rail
• The rail is the smooth metal bar that the printhead carriage slides back and forth on. There may also be a belt or guide bar.
5. Clean the Rail First
• Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol to wipe down the rail. This removes dust, dried ink mist, and old lubricant.
6. Apply a Small Amount of Grease
• Put a small dab of your chosen grease onto a clean lint-free cloth or cotton swab.
• Gently apply it along the top half of the rail—just enough to create a light coating. Less is more!
7. Move the Carriage Back and Forth
• Slowly slide the carriage side to side to distribute the grease evenly.
8. Clean Up Any Excess
• Wipe off any extra grease to avoid gumming up the works or attracting dust.
9. Close the Cover and Plug Back In
• Power on the printer and let it go through its startup cycle. It should move more smoothly and quietly now.

⸻

Tips:
• Do not use WD-40 or standard motor oil—these are not safe for the plastic and electronic components.
• If your carriage was really squeaky, it might have been running dry for a while. Re-check it after a few weeks to see if it needs another light coat.
