We came across an odd abbreviation while reading “Bleeding Edge” - a 2013 novel by Thomas Pynchon.

&c is an old fashioned way of saying “etcetera” that might date back to the Civil War era. It’s out of place, and out of time, used in this novel that is set in the early 2000’s. It appears in stark contrast to the subject matter of the technology boom of the aughts.

Folk art is ever present in our local culture and an important part of our country’s history. Our 2026 calendar features a folk art quilt square designed by Bailey. It was inspired by barn squares from around the South and by her own mother’s hobby as a quilter.

The color palette was chosen from the predominant colors found around her home. Pink and orange to promote calm and creativity. Shades of green to symbolize growth and good health.

We had some tree work done last week by the Cortese Tree Specialists. Richards Design Group designed their logo over 40 years ago, and it has served them well throughout all these years. Cortese was purchased by The Davy Tree Expert Company in 2014, but they kept the Cortese logo because of its strength and the reputation of its brand in Knoxville.
