A 25% drop in rework. A 50% increase in training engagement. Same plant, same crew, one change.

Viking Power Technologies had the problem most manufacturers know well. Training existed, but it wasn't consistent. Shift A learned a procedure one way. Shift B learned it another way. New hires got whatever explanation the closest supervisor had time to give.

So they standardized it. Every operator completes the same training, the same way, every time. When a procedure changes, it changes for everyone at once.

The result: rework dropped 25%. Training engagement jumped 50%. CNBC's "Now We Know!" even came out to Houston to film it.

That's not a tooling problem. That's a training consistency problem, and it's fixable.

Your best trainer probably isn’t in HR. She’s the operator who’s been running Line 3 for 22 years and can diagnose a quality problem by sound before it shows up on the inspection report.

She’s also, statistically, closer to retirement than to her first year on the floor. And when she leaves, the training she carries in her head - the real version, not the SOP document - goes with her.

Most manufacturers know this is coming. Few have a system for capturing it before it walks out the door. Video-based training built from your own procedures, your own language, your own equipment, is the closest thing to bottling what she knows and making it available to every new hire who follows her.

The knowledge transfer problem isn’t a future problem. For a lot of plants, it’s already here.

How is your team capturing what your most experienced operators know before they retire?
