Astatula Police Department

At the end of April, our night shift officers responded to a different kind of emergency. A Barred Owl had been seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle. Following guidance provided by the Avian Reconditioning Center (ARC) in Apopka, our officers were able to safely care for the owl overnight until it could be transported to ARC the following morning.

After months of specialized treatment and rehabilitation, that owl along with another owl under ARC’s care was released back into its natural habitat for a second chance at life.

Officer Curry and Mayor Teeters were honored to attend this evening’s release, proudly representing the Town of Astatula as the owl was returned to the wild.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the Avian Reconditioning Center for the incredible work they do rehabilitating Florida’s injured birds of prey and giving them the opportunity to return to their natural environment.
