Join University of Georgia School of Law Professor Desiree LeClercq for an online conversation about the International Court of Justice's landmark advisory opinion affirming the right to strike. It will take place on Monday, June 8 at 9am EST on Zoom and will be moderated by Duncan Pickard, Debevoise & Plimpton.

Event description: On 21 May 2026, the International Court of Justice issued a landmark advisory opinion affirming that the right to strike is protected under the Freedom of Association and Protection of the Right to Organise Convention, 1948 (No. 87), despite the absence of an explicit textual reference. Interpreting the Convention in light of its object and purpose and relevant rules of international law, the Court clarified the scope of workers’ rights with significant implications for international organizations and labor governance.

Co-sponsored by the Human Rights Interest Group of the American Society of International Law, the International Organisations Interest Group of the European Society of International Law, and the United Nations Law Committee of the American Branch of the International Law Association.
