This past weekend marked an important moment in Alabama history, the anniversary of Vivian Malone’s graduation from The University of Alabama in 1965.
On May 30, 1965, Malone became the first Black graduate of UA, just two years after courageously enrolling amid national attention and resistance. Her perseverance, dignity, and determination helped reshape the future of education and civil rights in our state.
Today, we honor Vivian Malone not only for breaking barriers, but for the legacy of progress she left behind. Her story continues to inspire Alabama and the nation.
