Help Us Provide Refuge and Healing for Women and Girls in Crisis

The Nidia White Shelter of Hope is a safe haven for women and girls who have experienced abuse, sexual violence, or exploitation. Located on Nicaragua’s North Atlantic Coast, the shelter offers temporary housing, psychological care, and assistance navigating the legal system. It is more than just a place to stay—it is a place to begin healing.

Founded by local women through the Nidia White Foundation, this nonprofit organization is dedicated to protecting and restoring the dignity of women and girls affected by violence. In 2011, the Foundation partnered with the Miskito Missions Network to build a dedicated facility. With donated land, construction support from mission teams, and generous gifts from local and international donors, a 40-bed shelter was built—complete with private living areas, a kitchen, recreational spaces, and classrooms for training and support.

Sadly, recent political changes in Nicaragua have forced many international nonprofits to leave the country—eliminating a vital source of financial support for the shelter. This loss has placed a heavy burden on the Nidia White Foundation and jeopardized the shelter’s ability to serve the vulnerable girls and women who depend on it.
