Appalachian Renewable Power

We are thrilled to show our newest upgrade to the preschool/kindergarten playground -- a solar power learning hub and shade! This addition comes with all kinds of features. It's a table with seating and wheelchair access. It has a shade canopy to provide respite from the sun. And it is designed with artwork of flowers and insects, including the lifecycle of a butterfly. Most importantly, it is an opportunity for all students at Alexander Local Schools to learn about one of earth's many energy sources: the sun. It is an independent solar unit that harnesses that energy and can power up simple devices like laptops or cell phones or future items like lights or a digital marquee. Students can access data of input and output from the unit through a digital cloud and observe how that changes with weather and seasons. The solar table is a gift from the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio paid for by their Environmental Stewardship Pillar Grant program. We worked with Jeroch Carlson from local company ARP Solar to design and install it. We are so excited to have some shade, more seating options, AND an incredible opportunity to learn about solar energy out on our playground!
