Today, Saturday May 30th at 10:24 AM, Timberlake Fire Protection District was dispatched to a report of a subject who had fallen and sustained a possible femur fracture approximately 4.5 miles up a remote trail.

Due to the location, the trail was inaccessible by vehicle or UTV, requiring crews to hike nearly three hours to reach the patient. Recognizing the challenging terrain and need for advanced rescue capabilities, we requested Rescue 3, the Spokane County Sheriff’s helicopter staffed by highly trained firefighter/paramedics from the Spokane area.

Our crews arrived on scene simultaneously with the helicopter team. Together, responders assessed, treated, and packaged the patient for transport. Rescue 3 personnel then successfully hoisted the patient into the helicopter and transported them to a nearby hospital for further care.

The operation required a 9-mile round-trip hike with approximately 7,000 feet of elevation gain and loss. Thanks to the teamwork, dedication, and professionalism of everyone involved, the patient was safely removed from a very remote location.

We would also like to thank our mutual aid partners at Northern Lakes Fire District and Kootenai County Fire & Rescue for their assistance and support during this incident.

Crews cleared the scene and returned to service at approximately 5:00 PM.

Great work by all agencies involved and a reminder of the importance of regional cooperation in providing emergency services to our community.

Blue Shift Doing Blue Shift Things 💪🚒

After the wind decided to remind us who’s boss the other day, one of our local couples ended up with a tree on their house and a whole mess left behind.

While EMS 61 and Engine 62 crews were on scene for a call at the residence, they noticed the situation. A tree crew had already removed the tree from the house, but a large amount of debris had been left behind—and it was blocking the couple’s secondary egress ramp. The cleanup crew wasn’t expected back for 2–3 weeks.

Not exactly ideal… especially when getting in and out safely matters.

So before clearing the scene, crews grabbed some tools and got to work. They moved the debris to a safe location and reopened the ramp so the homeowners could safely access their home.

Proud of this crew and the work they continue to do for our community. 👏🚒
