Top 3 Reasons You Aren't Using NFP
1) Your Doctor has not told you about it.
The majority of medical schools do not teach natural family planning so most doctors do not feel comfortable talking with their patients about it. They also could still think that natural family planning means the old school rhythm method which was not very effective. Very few medical providers have learned about or are educated enough to speak and council patients on the modern methods of natural family planning.
2) There are only commercials for Birth Control
The pharmaceutical industry is a billion dollar industry that spends millions on marketing on TV, print and social media. Most natural family planning instructors are highly educated but do not have the same resources to advertise.
3) The CDC chart that hangs in my doctor’s office says it is ineffective.
This chart lumps all methods of fertility awareness and natural family planning together. It lumps the old school Rhythm Method with a high failure rate together with the Marquette Method with a low failure rate. The CDC has changed their website to include modern methods of NFP but not the chart. On the CDC website the failure rate for all fertility based awareness methods is 2%-24%. That puts the Marquette Method with a failure rate of 2% and means it is 98% effective.
