This quote is in reference to a group of black attorneys who continued to practice law after their law frim was burnt to the ground in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Black Wall Street. The Tulsa race massacre took place on May 31 and June 1 of 1921, when mobs of white residents, some of whom had been deputized by city officials, attacked Black residents and destroyed homes and business of the Greenwood District. The way has been paved for black attorneys by many who came before us.
