Today we honor Nancy Hanks Lincoln on her birthday.

Born in 1784, Nancy was Abraham Lincoln’s mother and a steady, compassionate presence in his early life, known for her intelligence, kindness, and strong values. Though she died in 1818 when Abraham was just nine, her influence shaped the man, and leader, he became.

By 10am on December 7th 1941, the attack was over. In its place was a stunned island and a shocked nation. Local O’ahu residents’ lives changed drastically in the previous two hours and would continue to be impacted for years to come. Many of the servicemen and -women who survived the attack would go on to fight through the end of World War II and beyond. But at this hour, battleships, airfields, and the harbor were still on fire and men were fighting for their lives.
