I don’t really love drawing with charcoal or graphite. I prefer drawing with paint, it moves around, giving me the ability to push and pull the lights and shadows. Here’s an hour long session with one of my favorite models, Sarah B.

Layered imagery and layered pigment are two of my favorite things to play around with when painting. This is an in process snapshot of the fourth painting in my new series, ‘Blood & Roses.’

Can you see the figure emerging? Three layers in, transparent brown oxide, quinacridone rose and manganese violet.

Started a new painting for my series ‘Blood & Roses.’ I took this photo of in my back yard, not really paying attention to the intricacies of this very common rose. Nature has away of surprising me!

Here are a few drawings from my weekly sketch group. Drawing from life on a regular basis has made me infinitely aware of how far I have come and how much I can still learn.

I am not sure if this one is finished, but I am simply in love with the colors that have emerged. You can plan everything out, but the magic of painting is never quite knowing how one pigment will affect another.

When I was an undergraduate student I attended UGA’s studies abroad program in Cortona,Italy. I remember thinking then that someday I would like to become a college professor. We’ll, today’s the day that little dream came true. Starting this fall, I will be teaching part-time in the Foundations Program at SCAD Atlanta! I am so excited to see where this next journey takes me.
